1. Introduction

Welcome to Vyb, an offline-first local audio player application designed and developed by Stonewell Studio ("we," "us," or "our"). Vyb provides users with high-fidelity local music playback, custom playlist organization, spatial sound adjustments, and playback control features on the Android operating system.

We respect your privacy and are committed to protecting it. This Privacy Policy outlines our principles regarding data collection, device permissions, and local security. By installing and using Vyb, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

Core Privacy Principle: Vyb is an offline-first application. We do not run background telemetry that uploads your personal audio tracks, playlists, or listening history to external web servers. Your data belongs strictly on your physical device.

2. App Permissions & Security Policy

To deliver a seamless, high-fidelity audio experience, Vyb supports Android 7.0 (API 24) and above and targets the current Android 16 (API 36) platform requirements. We use system framework APIs to minimize permission footprint:

Required

Storage Access via SAF

Vyb uses Android's native Storage Access Framework (SAF) document pickers. This allows you to import specific MP3 files or music folders without granting broad device-wide storage access permissions.

Required

Foreground Media Playback

Declared via FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK. Required by Android 14+ to run the audio playback engine uninterrupted when Vyb is in the background or screen is turned off.

Required

Notification Permission

Uses POST_NOTIFICATIONS on Android 13+. Allows Vyb to display compact media player controls (Play, Pause, Skip, Like) in your system notification shade and lock screen.

3. Data & Metadata Processing

Vyb processes audio data and listening stats locally. Let's break down exactly what happens to your data:

  • Audio Metadata Extraction: When you import files, Vyb uses Android's native MediaMetadataRetriever to extract track names, artist names, album titles, durations, and album artwork. This data is stored locally in your SQLite Database.
  • Local Room Database: All user-defined database information (such as your playlists, liked tracks, equalizer bands, customized presets, and system options) is stored on your device using Android's **Room SQLite Library**.
  • Smart Listening Insights: Your listening statistics (total play time, top-played tracks, preferred genres) are parsed dynamically from local databases on your device. We have no remote API access to these statistics.

4. Local Security & Storage

Vyb secures your audio files and metadata using Android system-level sandboxing technologies:

When files are imported, Vyb copies them into the application's isolated sandboxed directory. This ensures other apps cannot easily read, modify, or corrupt your imported audio files. When you delete a track or uninstall Vyb, all associated sandbox files and metadata in the Room database are immediately cleared by the Android OS.

5. Third-party Services & HTTPS Security

Vyb plays audio completely offline. To enhance the experience, Vyb can optionally fetch high-resolution album artwork for your local tracks. When an album-art lookup runs, Vyb sends only the non-identifying track title and artist name of your own local song to Apple's iTunes Search API over HTTPS to return matching cover art. No audio content, account data, location, or other music files are ever sent.

  • Automatic: If "Auto-Download Album Art" is enabled in Settings, Vyb may query for artwork after you add a new local track.
  • Manual: You can also trigger a single lookup with the "Fetch Album Art Online" action or turn the automatic behavior off entirely in Settings.
Network Security Guarantee: Vyb strictly enforces encrypted HTTPS transport across all network calls. Unencrypted cleartext HTTP traffic is completely disabled app-wide in compliance with Google Play Security Policies.

6. Google Play Data Safety Declaration

For complete transparency with Google Play Store users, below is our formal Data Safety breakdown:

No PII / Audio Collected

User Data Collection

Vyb does NOT collect, harvest, store, or transmit any Personally Identifiable Information (PII), audio files, account details, contact data, or listening statistics to external servers. All playback and listening data stays on your device.

Optional Lookup Only

Third-party Metadata Lookup

The only external network call is an optional album-art lookup that sends a song's non-identifying title and artist to Apple's iTunes Search API over HTTPS. It can be switched off in Settings, and no data is shared with ad networks, analytics, or data brokers.

Encrypted Transport

Security Practices

All optional album-artwork lookups use HTTPS encryption. App storage is fully isolated within Android's app sandbox.

Instant Erasure

Data Deletion Mechanism

Deleting a track or uninstalling Vyb instantly and permanently erases all associated sandbox databases, artwork caches, and metadata from your device.

7. Children's Privacy

Vyb is fully compliant with children's safety and privacy directives. Because we do not collect, request, parse, or transmit any personally identifiable information (PII) to remote locations, Vyb is safe and suitable for users of all ages, including children under the age of 13.

8. Policy Changes

We may update our Privacy Policy periodically to reflect shifts in application updates or Android OS requirements. If we modify this policy, we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. We recommend checking this page periodically to remain informed about our privacy practices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions about Vyb's privacy? Find quick answers below.

Absolutely not. Vyb operates entirely locally. Your audio files are processed locally on your device's processors to play audio, extract metadata tags (like titles and artists), and save album covers. We do not host web servers to store your music files.

Vyb uses Android's standard media session framework to keep audio playing in the background. This shows compact playback controls (play, pause, skip, like, seek) in your system notification shade and lock screen as a background service, so you can control your music without keeping the app open.

Since Vyb stores all track records, imported audio caches, playlists, and settings in Android's local sandboxed app storage, uninstalling Vyb instantly clears all related data from your device's hardware. Your original audio files in public download folders will remain untouched.

No. Vyb does not request access to device GPS, contacts, search logs, camera feeds, or accounts. The only access required is to your local audio files so it can play and manage your music.
